Durarara!! (デュラララ!!, Dyurarara!!?) is a Japanese light novel series written by Ryohgo Narita, with illustrations by Suzuhito Yasuda. As of September 2010, eight volumes have been published by ASCII Media Works under their Dengeki Bunko imprint. A manga adaptation by Akiyo Satorigi started serialization in the shōnen manga magazine Monthly GFantasy on April 18, 2009. An anime adaptation began airing in Japan in January 2010.[1] The series is about a dullahan working as an underworld courier in Ikebukuro, Japan, an internet-based anonymous gang called Dollars, and the chaos that unfolds around the most dangerous people in Ikebukuro. A game based on the series for the PlayStation Portable was released on September 22, 2010.[2]

[edit] Plot
Mikado Ryūgamine is a young man who longs for the exciting life of the big city. At the invitation of his childhood friend Masaomi, he transfers to a school in Ikebukuro, Tokyo.

Masaomi warns him about people he doesn't want to cross in the city: a violent man dressed like a bartender, an information merchant, and a mysterious gang called "Dollars." And to top it off, Mikado witnesses an urban legend on his first day in the city: the "Black Rider," the supposedly headless driver of a black motorcycle.

The narrative follows all of the characters equally, showing how their lives intersect, creating a greater plotline from what each character knows about a common incident.

[edit] Main characters
Main article: List of characters in Durarara!!
Mikado Ryūgamine (竜ヶ峰 帝人, Ryūgamine Mikado?)
Voiced by: Toshiyuki Toyonaga (Japanese), Darrel Guilbeau (English)

A first year high school boy who moved to Ikebukuro with the encouragement of his best friend, Masaomi Kida. He moved in order to search for unusual beings and adventure. His greatest fear is having a normal life. Mikado tries hard to change his image but so far he has not had any luck, although he does get up enough courage to become the Class Representative along with Anri. Mikado has had moments where he speaks his mind, and Masaomi claims to admire this about him. He is the only remaining creator of the infamous Dollars. He seems to be infatuated with Anri Sonohara, but has never found a chance to tell her. Whenever he is close to confessing, she leaves. Mikado often gets advice from Izaya, particularly in relation to the Dollars and his need to seek out a life that isn't ordinary.
His online chat screenname is "Taro Tanaka" (田中太郎, Tanaka Tarō?).
Celty Sturluson (セルティ・ストゥルルソン, Seruti Sutururuson?)
Voiced by: Miyuki Sawashiro (Japanese), Kari Wahlgren (English)

The heroine of the series. Also known as "The Black Biker" or "The Headless Rider", she is a Dullahan from Ireland who came to Japan looking for her stolen head. Her motorcycle is actually a horse in disguise. She has no heart and perceives via unknown sensors that are not located on the head. The physical strength she possesses is above human, though not quite on par with Shizuo Heiwajima. She is also capable of manipulating a shadow-like, durable substance to form objects ranging from gloves to chariots at her will.
Celty lives with Shinra Kishitani, and the two are romantically involved. She works as an underground courier. She wears a helmet when she goes out and communicates via a PDA. She enjoys online chatting, television and DVDs. She is one of the minority who knows the creator of the Dollars and that Anri is in control of Saika. Over the course of the series, her relationship with Shinra intensifies; eventually, she says that she is in love with Shinra. She has a habit of punching Shinra in the stomach whenever he talks about his love for her. She tends to get mad when Shinra says she does not need her head. Despite being a supernatural creature, she is afraid of extraterrestrials and has developed a fear of traffic officers as they started pursuing her frequently. Her biggest fear, however, is that if her head is destroyed, the same may happen to her. She is a member of Dollars.
Her online chat screenname is "Setton" (セットン?).

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun (とある科学の超電磁砲?, lit. A Certain Scientific Railgun) is an anime series based on the manga of the same name, which itself is spin-off of the light novel, manga and anime series Toaru Majutsu no Index. The manga is serialized in Dengeki Daioh and written by Kazuma Kamachi, who is also the author of the Toaru Majutsu no Index light novels and illustrated by Motoi Fukuyama. Set in Academy City before and during the same time of the events of Toaru Majutsu no Index, the plot focuses on Mikoto Misaka, an electromaster who is the third most strongest esper in Academy City and her friends, Kuroko Shirai, a Teleporter and Mikoto's roommate, Kazari Uiharu, Kuroko's partner in Judgment, the city's public safety committee and Kazari's friend, Ruiko Saten. The anime tells the lives of these four friends and their adventures in Academy City.

The anime is produced by J.C.Staff which is directed by Tatsuyuki Nagai, series composition by Seishi Minakami, music by Maiko Iuchi, character design by Yuichi Tanaka and art and sound direction by Tomonori Kuroda and Jin Aketagawa respectively.[1] The anime began airing on Tokyo MX from October 2, 2009 to March 19, 2010 and were later aired a day later on Chiba TV, MBS, TV Saitama and TV Kanagawa. The first 12 episodes follow the manga closely, with some changes and a few anime-original episodes and characters, while the later half of the series was a new original plot written by Kazuma Kamachi. Eight DVD compilations, each containing three episodes and a mini Toaru Majutsu no Index novel written by Kazuma Kamachi and art by Haimura Kiyotaka which features Kaori Kanzaki as the protagonist, were release since February 7, 2010. A five minute episode referred to as "Episode 13'" was included with the Official Visual Book of the show released on July 24, 2010. An OVA episode was released on October 29, 2010.

The series features five pieces of theme music, two opening themes and three ending themes. For the first 14 episodes, the opening theme was "Only my Railgun" by fripSide, while the ending theme was "Dear My Friend -Mada Minu Mirai e-" (Dear My Friend -まだ見ぬ未来へ-, Dear My Friend -Towards an Unseen Future-?) by Elisa. A special ending theme, "Smile: You & Me" by Elisa was aired on episode 12. From episodes 15 onwards, the opening theme was "LEVEL 5 -Judgelight-" by fripSide and the ending theme was "Real Force" by Elisa. In the OVA, the opening theme was "Future gazer" by fripSide while the ending theme was "Special "ONE"" by Elisa.

Kuroko Shirai, a member of Academy City's Public Moral Committee, Judgment, is on the scene to apprehend a group of thugs harassing a girl only to find out the girl is none other than her senpai Mikoto Misaka who has already dealt with them. During this time, the city is holding a "System Scan", the annual testing of students power levels at several schools including Tokiwadai Middle School where the former two study. Kazari Uiharu, a colleague of Kuroko at Judgment from Sakugawa Middle School and a fan of Mikoto's, is invited by Kuroko to meet up with Mikoto herself and brings along her friend, Ruiko Saten. Kazari and Ruiko are surprised that Mikoto is nothing like the rich, snobby socialite image that they had in mind. Just then a nearby bank robbery takes place and Kuroko goes into action to stop the robbers, including a pyrokinesist. When Ruiko gets hurt while rescuing a young boy from one of the robbers, Mikoto in anger uses her powers to fire a railgun to stop him from escaping. With the robbers apprehended by the city's police, the Anti-Skills, Ruiko is thanked by everyone for her brave rescue.

As punishment for using their powers inside the dorms, both of them are sent to clean the school pool. To cheer her up, Mikoto gives her a present celebrating a slightly different anniversary, the day when they became friends. In the end she was able to stop him thanks to Mikoto, who heard Kazari's pleas and secretly help. However, it's not the exciting job she thought it was when she ends up doing a lot of menial, yet difficult tasks. Mii and Mikoto are next tasked to find a little girl's bag, which Mikoto assumes is related to the graviton bomb case. They eventually find the dog which had taken the bag, and Mikoto successfully retrieves it. Kuroko and Mii finally realizes that the culprit is targeting Judgment members, and Kazari is the next target. After evacuating the mall, with only Kazari, Mikoto, Tōma and the young girl left in the store, the bomb goes off. Mikoto fumbles her railgun trying to stop it, but everyone is saved by Tōma's powers. Mikoto manages to find and beat the culprit, a boy who wanted to punish Judgment for not protecting him from bullies, believing people with power like her and Judgment are corrupt. Mikoto punches him for using that as an excuse to hurt others, with Kuroko later telling him Mikoto would've stopped him even if she was a Level 1. Mikoto brings up the Level Upper urban legend Ruiko had mentioned, and Kuroko points out this is not the first time a user's power and the user's level have been vastly different. After discovering where they can get information on the Level Upper, Mikoto goes to a restaurant and pretends to be an interested customer to a group of teenagers who may have information about Level Upper. Mikoto eventually gives up the act when they won't tell her what she wants and soon faces their leader, a girl with the ability to manipulate asphalt. Mikoto wins the fight, but damages a nearby generator causing a city-wide blackout. Mikoto later catches up with Ruiko, noticing she's a bit down, and gives her some advice that levels aren't that important, though this secretly irritates Ruiko. The next day, Ruiko stumbles upon someone being conned by three thugs over Level Upper and can't bring herself to just run away, so she confronts them. Kuruko coincidentally arrives before Ruiko gets hurt and subdues two of the thugs, but has trouble using her teleportation powers against their boss, due to his ability to distort light affecting her teleportation. He chases Kuroko throughout an abandoned building, but is defeated when Kuroko teleports the windows to cut through the building's supports, bringing the place down. Kazari soon hears from Ruiko that her friends have fallen unconscious due to the Level Upper, and later finds her unconscious too. After admitting Ruiko to the hospital, Mikoto feels responsible for hurting her feelings with her advice and wants to help. They later learn from a frog-faced doctor (Heaven Canceler) that the Level Upper victims seem to share a brainwave pattern with someone. With the help of Mii, they theorize that Level Upper actually connects ability users like a network and learns the culprit is, to their surprise, Harumi. In the process, Mikoto experiences flashes of Harumi’s memories. In the past, Harumi was assigned by her boss, Gensei Kihara, to be a teacher to a group of Child Errors to prepare them for an experiment, growing fond of them in the process. However, the experiments went horribly wrong and the children ended up in comas, with Kihara deciding to cover it up. With the help of Anti-Skill members Aiho Yomikawa and Tsuzuri Tessō, Kazari manages to upload the cure Harumi gave her, a song file, which is played all over the city, calming the Level Upper users and weakening AIM Burst. Despite losing it's regenerative ability, AIM Burst is still able to use the Level Upper user's powers and emits their negative thoughts to Mikoto and Harumi. Mikoto battles AIM Burst again and apologizes to the users for not understanding their feelings and tells them not to give up on their dreams before shooting a railgun to destroy the creature's core. As sunset arrives, a mysterious woman and her team inspect the damages at the power plant while Harumi is arrested by the Anti-skills, still hoping to find a way to cure her students. Both of them do an illegal background check on Erii where they learn that despite being a Level 2 Telepath, she can exhibit Level 4 powers under certain catalysts. Due to the incident at the festival, Kazari decides to take Erii to a park to cheer her up where Erii reveals she is looking for her childhood friend. However, Erii goes into a trance again right before a violent Poltergeist attack occurs at the park. The girls go to the hospital where Kazari becomes angry at Kuroko for suspecting Erii. Telestina meets the girls and decides to do some tests on Erii at the MAR's headquarters to prove her innocence. Despite the tests confirming Erii's innocence, Kuroko remains skeptical. Finally awake, Erii explains to everyone that she would go into a trance upon hearing the voice of her friend, Banri Edasaki, who, upon showing them a picture of her, Mikoto recognizes as one of Harumi's students.

Mikoto explains about the experiment Harumi was involved to Telestina, who theorizes that Harumi's comatose students are the cause of the Poltergeist incidents. However this theory divides Kazari and Kuroko even more as the former thinks the latter is now blaming them instead. The next day, Mikoto learns that Harumi had been released from custody and later learns that if the Poltergeist situation isn't resolved, it could potentially destroy Academy City. Mikoto later goes to investigate one of Gensei's old facilities and encounters Harumi herself, who brings her to a hospital where all of her comatose students are under the care of Heaven Canceller. He explains that Gensei theorized that an esper can become a Level 6 by taking Ability Crystals made from the essence of comatose espers who lost control of their AIM fields. He gathered the Child Errors and bailed Harumi to try and find a cure, but without the 'First Sample', the first test subject of Gensei's Ability Crystal program, their attempts at waking the students caused Poltergeist incidents. Suddenly, Telestina and the MAR who followed Mikoto's movements to the location of Harumi and her students arrives, demanding that Harumi gives up the children to their custody. Forced to choose, Mikoto takes Telestina's side since she believes the children might have a chance with her, prompting the heartbroken Harumi to comply.

However, Telestina destroys Harumi's data and refuses to let them see either Erii or the children. When Kazari tells her friends what happened, they learn that Telestina is in fact Gensei's granddaughter who was the first test subject of his Ability Crystal program. Realizing she was tricked, Mikoto confronts an battle-suited Telestina at MAR HQ, but is outmatched when Telestina uses Capacity Down on her, revealing she intends to finish Gensei's work. As Telestina and her men leave with Erii and the children, Mikoto is rescued by Mitsuko. When Mikoto awakens, she blames herself and tries to go off on her own again but is stopped by Ruiko, who reminds her she doesn't have to do everything by herself and also gets Kazari and Kuroko to apologize to each other. Mikoto, Kuroko, Kazari, Saten and Harumi finally arrive at the underground lab where the children are, but before they can do anything, the lab's Capacity Down is activated, revealing that Telestina has survived and proceeds to beat everyone down. Telestina reveals her plans of using the first sample from herself and the children to turn Erii, due to her unique powers, into a Level 6 at the price of the destruction of the city. As all hope seems lost, Ruiko, the only one not affected by Capacity Down, destroys its controls, allowing Mikoto to defeat Telestina with her railgun. With the first sample in hand, Harumi creates the cure which finally awakens Banri and the other children, giving her thanks to Mikoto. In the aftermath, the recovering children give a birthday message to Harumi via a blimp.

[edit] Story

Main story

Watashitachi no Tamura-kun's main story revolves around the title character Yukisada Tamura, who is in his third year of junior-high school when the story begins. Yukisada has become captivated by a strange girl named Komaki Matsuzawa who says that her birthplace was on another planet and she is trying to go back.[1] One day, Yukisada confesses his affections to Komaki, but immediately following this, Komaki's grandmother dies and she has to move away. They both manage to keep in contact for a while by writing letters, though Komaki stops writing around the time of the high school entrance exams. When Yukisada enters high school, he becomes concerned with one of his female classmates named Hiroka Sōma.[1] In junior-high, Hiroka was constantly bullied, which would cause her to stay home, eventually causing her to become isolated and helpless. Yukisada chooses not to ignore her like most of his other classmates, and instead starts encouraging her and helps her to build her self-esteem. Before long, Hiroka falls for Yukisada, and one day confesses her love to him. During this time, Yukisada has kept in contact with Komaki and has mentioned Hiroka in his letters. Thereupon, one day after a long time, a letter arrives from Komaki to Yukisada asking who exactly is Hiroka. Yukisada later faces a complicated situation involving his old love Komaki and his new love Hiroka.

Side story

The two-chapter side story entitled Takaura-sanchi no Kazokukeikaku (高浦さんちの家族計画?) concerns Yukisada Tamura's good friend, Shinichi Takaura and his younger half-sister, Io Tamai. Io detests anything related to matters of love or affection and is very anti-social. Seeing this, Shinichi attempts to rehabilitate his half-sister in the matter of love.

[edit] Characters

Yukisada Tamura (田村 雪貞 Tamura Yukisada?)
Voiced by: Sōichirō Hoshi
Yukisada is the protagonist of the story. At one point, he loved learning about bugs, but has since moved on to the manners and customs during the Kamakura period in Japan.[1] The story begins with him in his third year of junior-high school. He falls in love with his classmate and friend Komaki Matsuzawa, and manages to confess to her one day. However, she moves away almost immediately after due to her grandmother's death. Yukisada lives in a five-person household with his two parents, and an older and younger brother. Basically, he is a frivolous person who easily gets carried away. His favorite meals are eel and home-made jiaozi. He finds inspiration from Hōjō Tokimune, though his dream is to be someone as great as Emperor Jimmu.
Komaki Matsuzawa (松澤 小巻 Matsuzawa Komaki?)
Voiced by: Ryō Hirohashi
Komaki is Yukisada's classmate during their third year of junior-high school. During an accident when she was twelve, she lost both her parents and her older brother. Due to this, she turned very reserved and quiet. When she entered her third year of junior-high, she met Yukisada and little by little opened her heart to him. However, during summer vacation shortly after that school year began, her grandmother dies and she has to move away to a far distant relative's house. She is a very strange girl who says she was born on another planet and wants to go back.[1] In school, she always gets top grades, and is on the track team at her school under the 200 meter dash event. Her favorite food is curry.
Hiroka Sōma (相馬 広香 Sōma Hiroka?)
Voiced by: Ami Koshimizu
Hiroka is Yukisada's classmate during their first year of high school. While thought to be very beautiful, she acts cold towards others so most people leave her alone;[1] she was given the nickname "Tundra Queen" due to her standoffish personality. During her junior-high school life, she was bullied constantly and even did not go to school for a year because of it. In high school during exam time, she gets help from Yukisada's older brother Nao as a tutor to go over things she learned in school. Some of her classmates from her junior-high still attempt to tease her, though Yukisada does his best to encourage her and help to build back her self-esteem. Due to this, Hiroka becomes quite attached to Yukisada and even one day confesses her love to him; eventually, Hiroka shares her first kiss with Yukisada. Hiroka is also very good at cooking.
Hachiya (蜂谷?)
Voiced by: Eriko Fujimaki
Hachiya is the school nurse at Yukisada's high school. She likes to encourage Hiroka as well and indoctrinates Hiroka and Yukisada about various things. Her nickname in school is "unripe fruit" (青い果実 Aoikajitsu?).
Shinichi Takaura (高浦 真一 Takaura Shinichi?)
Voiced by: Atsushi Kisaichi
Shinichi is a good friend of Yukisada and they have known each other at least since junior-high school when Shinichi was the class representative of their class. One way or another, he is constantly worrying about his younger half-sister Io.
Io Tamai (玉井 伊欧 Tamai Io?)
Io is Shinichi's half-sister born from Shinichi's father and his mistress. Her mother enjoys trifling with the Takaura family's assets, which makes Io disdain her. Since her familial life is rather complicated, she has gone through different interests from reading books, to researching black magic, and even ran a website dedicated to aesthetics. She is extremely disgusted by anything pertaining to love or attraction. She has a pet Shiba Inu named Potato.
Reiko Tamai (玉井 麗子 Tamai Reiko?)
Reiko is Io's mother. Since she is Shinichi's father's mistress, she lives in their house. She constantly has fights with members of the Takaura family or her daughter but has a surprisingly good relationship with Shinichi as she sees him as a good role model for Io.
Nao Tamura (田村 直 Tamura Nao?)
Voiced by: Ryōhei Nakao
Nao is Yukisada's three-year-older brother. He has a sharp mind and spends much of his time attending university. He also helps tutor Hiroka with her school work. In short, he is a very dependable older brother. He also constantly concerns himself with matters of Japanese lexicon.
Takayuki Tamura (田村 孝之 Tamura Takayuki?)
Takayuki is Yukisada's three-year-younger brother. He enjoys playing sports and is popular with girls. During his sixth year of elementary school, he devotes much of his time to playing soccer.
Ritsuka Kurokawa (黒川 立夏 Kurokawa Ritsuka?)
Ritsuka is Komaki's classmate during their first year of high school. Like Komaki, she also has someone she likes and misses due to distance between each other. She is the main character from the short side story "Himitsu Melancholy".
Yōko Shikata (鹿多 瑤子 Shikata Yōko?)
